First firing of European staged-combustion demonstration engine

The first hot firing test of a reduced-scale demonstration version of a closed-cycle, staged-combustion rocket engine has recently been achieved at the Lampoldshausen test facility of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). This development work is part of ESA’s Future Launchers Preparatory Programme (FLPP).

First ATV launcher’s assembly completed

The Ariane 5 ES for Arianespace’s upcoming mission to service the International Space Station is now complete following installation of the large fairing that will protect its Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV) payload during the launcher’s initial ascent.
