The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) has released its 2008 State of the Satellite Industry Report, showing a 16 percent growth in global revenues for the commercial satellite industry. World-wide revenues in 2007 were US$123 billion, representing an average annual growth of 11.5 percent for the period from 2002-2007.

Television Broadcasts Ltd (TVB) of Hong Kong, one of the world’s largest producers and distributors of Chinese programmes, has selected capacity on the Eurobird 9 satellite operated by Eutelsat Communications to launch its new multi-channel digital platform of Chinese-language channels for satellite homes across Europe.

JAXA carried out a communication experiment with the University of Alaska last month successfully sending observation data from the Daichi satellite to the NASA White Sands Test Facility via the U.S. TDRS-10 data relay satellite. It was the world’s first data transmission test of this kind.
