As Americans, we are all pretty used to being number one in international athletic competition. In the Olympics (both summer and winter), we consistently rack up the highest medal counts. The same is true for world championships and sporting competitions such as tennis and golf. The United States consistently produces world-class, dominating athletes such as Michael Phelps and Tiger Woods.

Once the famed “Pitchers and Catchers” reporting is underway, the boys of summer start another marathon campaign. America’s Pastime continues to enthrall the nation.

For sports fans, there is nothing that unites quite so strongly as a devotion for the same favorite team. While it might sound simple-minded, other affiliations, even those that are religious or political, go out the window when the game is on. And for anyone who might need to find a common ground to bond with a new in-law or friend’s new girlfriend, sports can often be a pleasant topic that will not offer the same chances for faux pas as, say, whether or not you voted for the current president.

If you or anyone in your home is a movie lover, you know that it can be quite an expensive pastime. Whether you rent videos or DVDs or frequently go to the movie theater to catch the latest flick on the big screen, it’s easy to spend more than you would like to each month on entertainment expenses. Especially if your whole family is made up of movie fans, one night out to the cinema can cost a small fortune. When you factor in the price of transportation, parking, movie tickets and refreshments, the price tag is pretty big and with today’s difficult financial times, families just can’t afford to be spending so much on extra expenses like entertainment.

If you really care about getting your home entertainment conditions in order, then surely you will need to give your television and TV service a good deal of attention to get there. How many of us have begrudgingly gone years and years with a cruddy old tube TV from decades gone by along with a jerry-rigged home antenna that barely provided a visibly discernible signal?

SES Astra has been awarded a second contract by the European Commission (EC) to provide hosted payload services for EGNOS, the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service. The contract was awarded following a tender by the European Commission.
