Ouch! Fobos-Grunt fails shortly after launch

Submit on Wednesday, November 9th, 2011 22:59

Fobos-Grunt, Russia’s robotic mission to the Mars moon Phobos, is stuck in a low-Earth orbit after its successful launch. The spacecraft was supposed to use its own engine to reach the designated trajectory to Mars, but failed to do so. Hopes for a timely recovery exist in theory but may be rather small.
