China set a new launch record in 2011

On 22 December 2011, with the successful launch of the Ziyuan-02C [a.k.a. Zi Yuan 1-02C] satellite from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, China completed all of its launch activities in the year 2011. During this year, China conducted 19 launches in total, including nine GTO missions and 10 LEO missions.

NASA twin spacecraft on final approach for moon orbit

NASA’s twin spacecraft to study the moon from crust to core are nearing their New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day main-engine burns to place the duo in lunar orbit.

Recent Soyuz failure not to affect Globalstar launch

The launch of six Globalstar-2 satellites aboard a Soyuz 2-1a from Baikonur is to go ahead as scheduled on 28 December despite the recent failure of a Soyuz 2-1b.

Orbcomm prepares for launch of second AIS satellite

Orbcomm Inc. announced that LuxSpace Sarl, an affiliate of OHB System AG, has confirmed that construction and testing of the LuxSpace VesselSat2 AIS satellite has been successfully completed.

China’s Beidou satellite navigation system launched a limited positioning service on 27 December, the official Xinhua news agency said.
