Two reports claim that the recent failure of North Korea’s Unha-3 rocket was caused by structural damage to the vehicle’s third stage. This would classify it as a typical Max-Q-failure (i.e. it occurred near the maximum of the dynamic pressure exerted upon the rocket during acceleration).

FASTSAT (Fast, Affordable, Science and Technology SATellite), developed by Dynetics in partnership with NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) and the Von Braun Center for Science and Innovation (VCSI), completed 17 months of mission operations on orbit. The mission has been extended through at least October 2012.

Lockheed Martin, under a contract from the University of Arizona (U of Az), has completed assembly of the Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) Instrument Modules. NIRCam is the prime near-infrared imaging instrument for NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).

Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. announced that its RT Logic subsidiary released CyberC4, a family of cyber security products designed specifically for the satellite industry. The new products address the increased vulnerabilities as satellite networks continue to become more netcentric, targeting the major cyber security gaps that can impede missions.
