Reports on potential Earth Explorer missions published

Three new satellite concepts are vying to be chosen as ESA’s seventh Earth Explorer mission. In preparation for selection next year, a series of reports has been published presenting the scientific and technical ambition of each mission.

TBE to develop space-based digital imaging capability

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated announced that its subsidiary, Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc., was awarded a Cooperative Agreement by NASA to foster the commercial utilisation of the International Space Station.

Dawn moving into final science orbit around Vesta

After successfully completing nearly five months scrutinising the giant asteroid Vesta at its lowest orbit altitude, NASA’s Dawn spacecraft began its final major science data-gathering phase at Vesta on 15 June at an average altitude of 680 kilometers above the surface.

GPS technology improves weather forecasting

Researchers at RMIT University’s SPACE Research Centre and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology are using GPS and low Earth orbit satellites to provide an additional type of temperature profile observation for use in weather forecasting computer models, the Melbourne-located university said.
