Physicist and Engineers at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory Plasma Physics Division and Naval Center for Space Technology are researching a technique to ‘sweep’ Low Earth Orbit (LEO) debris from space using an Active Debris Removal (ADR) system of deployed micron-scale dust.

SES announced a new multi-year agreement with one of its largest customers in the Philippines, MediaScape Inc, to provide additional capacity on the SES-7 satellite at 108.2 degrees East.

ILS has informed SES that the launch of the Proton launch vehicle with the SES-5 satellite has been postponed for technical reasons related to the Proton launch vehicle. The launch date will be determined at a later time.

Eutelsat Communications announced it has concluded negotiations to acquire the GE-23 satellite, associated customer contracts and orbital rights from GE Capital for US$228 million. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2012 (calendar), subject to regulatory approvals.
