A Barcelona-based company, Galactic Suite, leading the industrial conglomerate, Barcelona Moon Team, announced it has signed a launch service contract for a Chinese rocket that will carry the Spanish robot to the Moon in 2014 to attempt to win the US$30 million Google Lunar X prize.

Spaceflight Inc. announced that the USAF Space Development and Test Directorate has exercised a contract option to launch the Kestrel Eye 1 imaging nanospacecraft on a commercial launch in 2013.

The Inter-departmental Failure Review Board met under the chairmanship of V. Popovkin at Roskosmos on 7 August to review potential causes of the Proton M/Briz M mission failure to orbit two spacecraft-Express MD2 and Telkom-3. The integrated launch vehicle took off from the Baikonur launch base the day before.

NASA has chosen three teams to advance the state of the art for small spacecraft in the areas of communications, formation flying and docking systems. The flights are expected to take place in 2014 and 2015.
