Atlas V lifts off with classified paylaod

Rocket: Atlas V; Payload: NROL-36; Date: 13 September 2012, 2139 UTC; Launch site: Vandenberg Air Force Base, USA. The rocket lifted off as planned. However, the mission entered a news blackout five minutes after lift-off so that no further information was available at the time of writing this.

Astrium wins DEOS contract to demonstrate in-orbit servicing

The German Aerospace Center’s (DLR) Space Administration announced that Astrium Friedrichshafen will be the prime contractor for the definition phase of the DEOS (Deutsche Orbitale Servicing Mission, German orbital servicing mission) project. The order is worth a total of around EUR13 million. The definition phase is the last, decisive step before construction begins on the space vehicles themselves.

MDA receives request for additional information from U.S. Department of Justice

MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. announced that it has received a request for additional information, often referred to as a “second request” from the U.S. Department of Justice (“DOJ”), in connection with MDA’s proposed acquisition of Space Systems/Loral Inc.

SES Government Solutions awarded U.S. custom satellite solutions contract

SES announced that SES Government Solutions (SES-GS) has extended the means by which the U.S. Government can access their global satellite fleet and custom network solutions capabilities and has been awarded a Custom SATCOM Solutions (CS2) contract.
