JPSS-1 launch comes closer

NASA is preparing to launch the Joint Polar Satellite System-1, or JPSS-1, satellite on behalf of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide essential data for timely and accurate weather forecasts and for tracking environmental events such as forest fires and droughts.

ESA, ViaSat partner on ViaSat-3 communications system development

ViaSat Inc. announced a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between its wholly owned subsidiary ViaSat Antenna Systems S.A. and the European Space Agency (ESA), to develop key components of the ViaSat-3 satellite communications system with European industry.

U.S. Air Force awards contract for new rideshare capability

The U.S. Air Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center has awarded the Long Duration Propulsive Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) Secondary Payload Adapters (ESPA) (LDPE) procurement contract to Orbital Sciences Corp., Space Systems Division for US$34 million.

USAF accepts Raytheon’s GPS OCX launch and checkout system

Control of new satellite transferred to SES

Following its launch on 11 October, the EchoStar 105/SES-11 satellite built by Airbus Defence and Space reached its geostationary orbit on 19 October and has been fully deployed and tested.
