It used to be that television, or at least fictional television, was designed to be an escape from the more difficult components of everyday life. And there is certainly nothing wrong with that approach to programming: after all, if you’re dealing with enough stress in a difficult relationship, trying work environment, or generally stressful current state of events, you don’t want to be reminded of all of the more difficult things in life, necessarily.
