Li-ion batteries from Saft to power Eurostar E3000

Saft has signed a new multi-year LTA (Long Term Agreement) with Astrium to supply the onboard lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery modules for every Eurostar GEO (Geosynchronous Earth Orbit) communications satellite to be built over the next years.

NASA retires TRACE spacecraft

NASA’s Transition Region And Coronal Explorer, known as TRACE, conducted its final observations of the Sun on 21 June. Launched in April 1998, TRACE observed – for the first time – an entire cycle of solar activity and imaging dynamic coronal phenomena.

Last two space shuttle flights delayed

NASA is targeting approximately 2033 UTC on 1 November for the launch of space shuttle Discovery’s STS-133 mission and 2119 UTC on 26 February 2011, for the lift-off of shuttle Endeavour’s STS-134 flight from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
