NASA’s Stardust spacecraft sent its last transmission to Earth at 0033 UTC on 25 March, shortly after depleting fuel and ceasing operations. During an 11-year period, the venerable spacecraft collected and returned comet material to Earth and was reused (as Stardust-NExT) after the end of its prime mission in 2006 to observe and study another comet during February 2011.

South Africa’s SumbandilaSat, launched 18 months ago, is tumbling in orbit after a reaction wheel failure. It is still usable to some extent, though.

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) set up a satellite communication connection using the Engineering Test Satellite VIII “Kiku No. 8″ (ETS-VIII) to support disaster mitigation measures following the Tohoku Region Pacific Ocean coastal earthquake.
