Engineers and scientists at the Lockheed Martin Space Systems Advanced Technology Center (ATC) have completed delivery of key hardware subsystems for NASA’s Magnetosphereic Multiscale mission (MMS). Santa Clara, Calif., June 12, 2012—Over one?quarter of TVs shipped during Q1’12 were equipped with internet connectivity, as reported in the new NPD DisplaySearch Quarterly Smart TV Shipment and Forecast Report, which tracks connected and smart TV shipments by brand, region, display technology and screen size. Approximately 27% of TV sets shipped worldwide had internet connectivity, led by Japan, where 46% of sets had networking capability, and Western Europe with 36%. In a good example of how internet entertainment is developing rapidly in emerging markets, China followed closely behind Western Europe with 32% of sets that shipped having internet functionality.

China will launch its Shenzhou-9 manned spacecraft sometime in mid-June to perform the country’s first manned space docking mission with the orbiting Tiangong-1 space lab module, state media reported.

Sea Launch announced that it has released preliminary “Quick Look” payload unit (PLU) telemetry information to Intelsat S.A. and Space Systems/Loral on 8 June 2012. The launch provider said that while all systems aboard the Zenit 3SL rocket performed nominally, there was indeed an “unexpected event” 72 seconds after lift-off.

NASA’s Mars Odyssey orbiter put itself into safe mode early Friday, 8 June UTC, when the spacecraft detected unexpected characteristics in movement of one of its reaction wheels. The spacecraft uses three of these wheels as the primary method for adjusting and maintaining its orientation. It carries a spare reaction wheel.
