Update: Proton M, SES-5 lift off

An International Launch Services Proton M launch vehicle has successfully injected the 6,000-kg SES-5 (Sirius 5) spacecraft into geostationary transfer orbit. It was the sixth launch by a Proton in 2012 and the 378th Proton mission over the entire Proton flight history.

Eutelsat books 28th Ariane launch

Eutelsat Communications and Arianespace announced the conclusion of a new launch services contract for a future Eutelsat satellite. The assignment of the launch to a satellite will be made at a later stage.

Aerojet planning European space propulsion subsidiary

Aerojet has entered the final planning of the formation of a European subsidiary to serve the needs of the European space industry. The new company, European Space Propulsion, will use indigenous manufacturing and engineering talent to produce proven in-space thrusters and propulsion systems, the company said.

JCSAT-13 ready for service

The JCSAT-13 telecommunications satellite, designed and built by Lockheed Martin for Sky Perfect JSAT of Japan, is now ready for service following successful on-orbit deployment and checkout of all spacecraft systems. JCSAT-13 is required to meet a 15-year design life and is located at 124 degrees East.

Armenia to order Russian satellite

Armenia is planning to order a commercial communications satellite from Russia under the terms of a memorandum of understanding signed recently.

Harris CapRock and Astrium Services to offer UHF tactical satellite solutions

Harris CapRock Communications, a provider of fully managed communications for remote and harsh environments, has signed a multi-year, multi-channel agreement with Astrium Services to offer end-to-end Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) Tactical Satellite solutions to international and U.S. Government users. The joint Harris CapRock and Astrium Services end-to-end commercial UHF service will be launched in spring 2013.
