Ariane successfully launches Herschel and Planck

Rocket: Ariane 5 ECA; Payload: Herschel, Planck; Date: 14 April 2009, 1312 UTC; Site: Kourou, French Guiana. Almost 26 minutes later, and about two minutes from each other, the two science satellites were released separately on an escape trajectory toward L2, some 1.5 million kilometres from Earth in the opposite direction to the Sun.
