EUMETSAT to operate Sentinel missions under Copernicus 2.0 agreement

Europe’s meteorological satellite agency, EUMETSAT, will become the largest operator of the Copernicus programme’s Sentinel satellite missions under an agreement signed with the European Commission.

Pirs module to be undocked from ISS on July 26

The Pirs module will be undocked from the International Space Station (ISS) on 26 July, chief of Russia’s state space corporation Roskosmos Dmitry Rogozin said.

Galileo Second Generation proof-of-concept testing begins

The first Galileo Second Generation hardware has begun testing, with test versions of the satellites’ navigation payloads undergoing evaluation by Airbus Defence and Space at their Ottobrunn facility in Germany and by Thales Alenia Space at ESA’s ESTEC technical centre in the Netherlands.

NASA returns Hubble Space Telescope to science operations

NASA has returned the science instruments on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) to operational status, and the collection of science data will now resume. This will be the first science data collected since the payload computer experienced a problem on 13 June, which placed the instruments in a safe configuration and suspended science operations.

Measat-3 under control, operator says

Measat Global Berhad announced that while Measat has maintained continuous telemetry and command control of the Measat-3 satellite since the previously reported anomaly on 21 June, an in-depth investigation is still being conducted with Boeing Satellite Systems to determine the root cause of the anomaly.

Airbus qualifies Europe’s first 5-m deployable reflector for radar satellites

Airbus has successfully qualified Europe’s first five metre deployable antenna reflector. The 70 kilogram deployable reflector will help enable higher resolution from a radar instrument for Earth observation.
