First greenhouse gas detecting satellite launched by Japan

Rocket: H-IIA; Payload: Greenhouse Gases Observing Satellite “Ibuki” (GOSAT), Small Demonstration Satellite-1 (SDS-1), six other microsatellites; Date: 23 January 2009, 0354 UTC; Site: Tanegashima Space Center, Japan. The launch vehicle flew smoothly, and at about 16 minutes after lift-off, the separation of Ibuki was confirmed.

New launch date set for SumbandilaSat

According to BuaNews, the date for the launch of the long-delayed SumbandilaSat science satellite has been set for 25 March aboard a Soyuz rocket that is also to carry the Meteor-M weather satellite.

Roskosmos, Arianespace discuss Soyuz communications policies

Representatives of the Russian Federal Space Agency’s (Roskosmos) Press Office and Arianespace’s Public Affairs Office held their first working meeting of 2009 to discuss informational and communications policies for the upcoming operations of Soyuz from the Spaceport in French Guiana.
