With the launch date of 9 September 2009 confirmed by Eurockot Launch Services, ESA’s Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite has come out of storage at Thales Alenia Space’s facilities in Cannes, France.

Intelsat Ltd. announced its plan to add a new satellite to its global fleet. The Intelsat 22 satellite is expected to be launched in Q1 2012, and will serve at the 72 degrees East orbital location over the Indian Ocean region. It will also carry a UHF payload for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Speaking during the International Space University’s recently completed symposium on “Space for a Safe and Secure World,” University President Michael Simpson said that the 2007 student study on Space Traffic Management recommended ways to prevent space collisions.

A U.S. Air Force/Lockheed Martin team announced that the five-satellite Milstar constellation has accumulated 50 years of combined on-orbit operations and continues to provide communications to U.S. and Allied Forces around the globe.
