ProtoStar II and Proton’s Briz M arrive at Baikonur

The Boeing-built ProtoStar II (a.k.a. IndoStar II ) telecommunications satellite has arrived at its launch site, at Baikonur, to undergo preparations for a mid-May 2009 launch aboard a Proton M rocket powered by a Briz M booster.

Delta IV Heavy to launch NROL-15 spy satellite

Lockheed Martin to build, Arianespace to launch JCSAT-13

Lockheed Martin has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation of Japan to build its next geostationary communications satellite. Designated JCSAT-13, the satellite will be launched aboard an Ariane 5 in 2013.

CALIPSO backup laser switched on

The Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations (CALIPSO) mission is now operating on its redundant laser, which was designed as a contingency in case of a problem with the primary laser.

Japan to build up to 100 small satellites — report

Japan is planning to launch up to 100 mini-satellites to monitor events like natural disasters and traffic jams, according to the Daily Yomiuri.

China launches geostationary navigation satellite

Rocket: Chang Zheng 3C; Payload: Beidou 2 (Beidou G1?); Date: 15 April 2009, 1616 UTC. The navigation satellite was successfully placed into geostationary transfer orbit.

Arianespace to launch New Dawn satellite

New Dawn Satellite Company Ltd., a joint venture between Intelsat and a South African investor group led by Convergence Partners, has awarded Arianespace the launch contract to deliver the Intelsat New Dawn satellite into geostationary transfer orbit (GTO).

Boeing ships IndoStar II / ProtoStar II to Baikonur

Boeing announced that it has shipped the IndoStar II/ProtoStar II satellite from the company’s satellite manufacturing facility in El Segundo to the Baikonur Cosmodrome launch facility in Kazakhstan.
