NASA’s latest solar observatory launched

Rocket: Atlas V; Payload: Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO); Date: 11 February 2010, 1523 UTC; Launch Site: Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, USA. The SDO mission was successfully launched aboard an Atlas V 401 configuration and it used a single common core booster powered by the RD-180 engine.

Proton dual launch for SES-3 and KazSat-2

International Launch Services (ILS) and SES announced the ILS Proton launch of the SES-3 satellite with the Kazsat-2 telecommunications satellite in 2011.

Falcon 9 flight hardware arrives at at Cape Canaveral

Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) announced that all flight hardware for the debut launch of the Falcon 9 vehicle has arrived at the SpaceX launch site, Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40), in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

CryoSat-2 launch stays on track despite ‘hiccup’

As preparations for the launch of ESA’s CryoSat-2 mission on 25 February continue on schedule, an important milestone has been reached with the satellite’s encapsulation in the rocket’s “space head module”.

ESA invests in Swedish propellant gauging system for satellites

Measuring an orbiting satellite’s remaining fuel is a well-known problem. Nanospace, Sweden, which since 2007 has been working on a system that would solve this problem, has now been awarded a EUR2 million contract by ESA.

CBERS-3 launch postponed after CDR

Brazil and China will postpone the launch of their fourth joint satellite from 2010 to mid-2011, a Brazilian official was quoted as saying.
