If there is one thing that the current world economic situation has caused in the last two years, it is an increase in the amount of international travelers flocking to South America and Southeast Asia. With jobs being eliminated and housing prices dropping, people are having a hard time staying at home and finding not only a cheaper place to stay, but also a new profession. Many investment and mortgage bankers, in fact, have had to dump their old occupations and search for new careers within new industries, since the demand for their specific jobs no longer apply.

Intelsat 16 launch preparations progress as planned

Pre-launch activities associated with the mid-February launch of an International Launch Services Proton M/Briz M launch vehicle with the Intelsat 16 satellite are nearing completion in Assembly and Testing Building (”MIK”) 92-A50 at Baikonur.

NASA awards for development of commercial crew transportation

NASA has awarded US$50 million through funded agreements to further the commercial sector’s capability to support transport of crew to and from low Earth orbit. This step is the first taken by NASA consistent with the U.S. President’s direction to foster commercial human spaceflight capabilities, the agency said.

U.S. scrap plan for joint civil/military weather satellite system

The White House announced that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), NASA and the U.S. Air Force will no longer continue to jointly procure the NPOESS weather satellite system.

European funding for Jason-3 secured

The transatlantic Jason-3 Programme has now been approved by EUMETSAT Member States thus ensuring a continuation of the series of measurements made by the Jason-2 satellite and its predecessors.

Kazakhstan to issue international tenders for future satellites

Kazakhstan will not automatically buy its future satellites from Russian companies and instead announce international tenders after the launch of its KazSat-2.

You Can’t Be a True Sports Fanatic If You Don’t Have Satellite

A true fanatic would rather watch the 1973 Super Bowl on one of the random ESPN channels, rather than watch any new CSI or Mad Men. He also knows that the only part of the news worth watching is the last five minutes for the update on the local athletic teams. In order to have access to sporting events 24 hours a day, every day of the year, one must have satellite TV.
