ESA High-Power Radio Frequency Laboratory moves to Spain

An agreement was signed last week to relocate ESA’s High-Power Radio Frequency Laboratory from ESTEC in the Netherlands to Valencia in Spain.

University of Surrey introduces “CubeSail” de-orbiting device

Scientists at the University of Surrey, working on a project funded by Astrium, have devised a 3 kg miniature satellite or “nanosatellite” fitted with a solar sail. It is set to play a major part in clearing dangerous clouds of debris hurtling around the Earth’s lower orbit, the university said.

SkyTerra Communications, Inc. merges with Harbinger

SkyTerra received approval from the International Bureau of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for the transfer of control of the company to Harbinger. The transaction has meanwhile been completed.

SpaceX activates new communication system aboard ISS

Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) announced the successful activation of its new Dragon spacecraft communication hardware aboard the International Space Station (ISS) during a series of operations conducted in January and March.

Teal Worldwide Mission Model Estimates 2,229 Space Payloads

Teal Group Corp. announced it has revised upward its Worldwide Mission Model of future space payloads. According to the Teal survey, there are 2,229 space payloads proposed for launch to Earth or lunar orbits or deep space trajectories from 2010-2029.

If Marx were alive today, he most probably would call TV the opium of the masses, not religion. I’m pretty sure you’ve caught someone – a friend, a relative, or a complete stranger – staring at a television screen, completely absorbed. Such is the power of TV and its hold on the human mind.

Satellite TV – Advancements in Technology

Satellite Television has been around since the middle 80’s and was a shared service transmitted through the Astra Satellite. Once the industry had settled down, the market was extremely narrow with only one major service provider for satellite television, and one other company who purchased the service direct from them to broadcast through cable.
