University of Surrey introduces “CubeSail” de-orbiting device

Scientists at the University of Surrey, working on a project funded by Astrium, have devised a 3 kg miniature satellite or “nanosatellite” fitted with a solar sail. It is set to play a major part in clearing dangerous clouds of debris hurtling around the Earth’s lower orbit, the university said.
