NASA, on behalf of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), has awarded a sole source contract to ITT Corporation. The award is for the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) instrument planned for flight on the first Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS-1) in 2014.

ARTEL, Inc. was named the first contractor to provide satellite services under a new US$5 billion General Services Administration (GSA) and Defense Information Services Agency (DISA) joint-contract vehicle.

NASA announced yesterday that the Lockheed Martin Corporation and Alliant Techsystems Athena Launch Vehicle Family has been selected to become part of the agency’s Launch Services II contract (NLS II).

Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) plans upgrades to the country’s H-IIA rocket, according to Mainichi Daily News.

The Rascom-QAF1R and Nilesat 201 telecommunications satellites, launched from Kourou in French Guiana by an Ariane 5 ECA rocket on 4 August, are now in operation. They have successfully passed their In Orbit Acceptance Review (IOAR), to the full satisfaction of the customers.

SenarioTek, LLC, a provider of custom RF/microwave test and measurement solutions, has been awarded a contract by Orbital Sciences Corporation to provide test technology to extend the capabilities of Orbital’s installed payload test systems for the HYLAS 2 satellite payload.

Thales Alenia Space and French space agency CNES announced that their jointly developed PROTEUS platform has passed the symbolic milestone of 20 cumulated years in orbit. Six of these modular platforms have been ordered to date, and five have already been launched, for the Jason-1, Calipso, CoRoT, Jason-2 and SMOS satellites.
