MDA denies evaluating sale of Systems division

MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. has denied a report that it is in talks to sell its Systems division (i.e. its space business) but did not expressly rule out a sale of other parts of the company.

Astrium completes first Swarm flight unit

The first flight unit of the Swarm satellite trio was completed at Astrium in Friedrichshafen. The purpose of the Swarm mission is to analyse the geomagnetic field and its evolution over time. The trio of satellites are set for launch from Plesetsk in 2012.

Michibiki sends first navigation signal

Prototype NASA Earth camera goes for test flight

A team of researchers and collaborators from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the University of Arizona’s College of Optical Sciences in Tucson has successfully conducted the first test flight of a prototype science instrument for a next-generation satellite mission to survey the impacts of aerosols and clouds on global climate change.

TerreStar files for bankruptcy protection

TerreStar Corporation announced that its majority-owned subsidiary TerreStar Networks Inc. and certain other affiliates have filed voluntary petitions for reorganisation under chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code as part of a strategic plan to strengthen their financial position.
