NASA’s EPOXI mission successfully flew by comet Hartley 2 at about 1400 UTC today, and the spacecraft has begun returning images. Hartley 2 is the fifth comet nucleus visited by a spacecraft.

All systems are nominal aboard the BSAT-3b broadcasting satellite, designed and built by Lockheed Martin for Broadcasting Satellite System Corporation (B-SAT) of Japan. The satellite was launched 28 October from Kourou, French Guiana aboard an Ariane 5-ECA. BSAT-3b’s co-passenger, Eutelsat W3B, was declared a total loss shortly after separation.

MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. has signed an amendment to the C$80 Million contract with the Canadian Space Agency to continue this Phase of the Radarsat Constellation Mission (RCM), which involves developing the detailed design of the RCM and all of its subsystems, and is the precursor to the Build Phase.
