Entertainment Showdown: Cable and Satellite TV Compared

When it comes to sitting down at one’s HDTV and enjoying what’s on for the evening, there are choices. People might not realize that these choices extend beyond what is offered up on the channels available, and actually encompass who is offering those channels in the first place. But it’s true; there’s more out there than mere cable service, and if those in charge of dish companies have anything to say about it, all television viewers who haven’t made the shift yet will be won over soon enough.

China launches communication satellite for Pakistan

Rocket: Chang Zheng 3B/E; Payload: PakSat 1R; Date: 11 August 2011, 1615 UTC; Launch site: Xichang Satellite Launch Center, China. The satellite entered geostationary transfer orbit, Xinhua said, citing the launch centre.

Russia tests rocket for GLONASS satellite launch

Russia’s Space Forces have started ground tests of a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket, which will orbit a GLONASS satellite at the end of August, spokesman Lt. Col. Vitaly Vyatkin was quoted as saying.

Astrium ships ATV “Edoardo Amaldi”

More Radarsat 2 imagery for ESA

MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. has signed a contract in excess of C$11 million to provide Radarsat-2 satellite imagery to the European Space Agency (ESA). The imagery will be delivered from June 2011 until May 2014.

Roskosmos to insure against satellite launch failures

Launch date set for NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-X satellites

SSTL has announced that it will launch the NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-X satellites on behalf of the Nigerian National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) by a Dnepr launch vehicle from Yasny, Russia, on 17 August 2011.
