LightSquared moves public safety users to SkyTerra 1

LightSquared announced that it has successfully transitioned approximately 50,000 public safety and enterprise customers from its MSAT satellites to LightSquared’s new SkyTerra 1 satellite.

Inmarsat selects ILS Proton for Inmarsat-5

Inmarsat plc announced that Inmarsat SA, one of its subsidiary companies, has signed a contract with International Launch Services (ILS) for the launch of three Inmarsat-5 satellites. The launches, scheduled for 2013-14, will use the ILS Proton launch vehicle from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

United Launch Alliance combines Atlas and Delta shipments

United Launch Alliance (ULA) last week completed the first combined Atlas and Delta rocket shipment from its factory in Decatur, Alabama, to the launch site at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, on the specially-designed ship called the Delta Mariner.

NASA’s Dawn spacecraft begins science orbits of Vesta

NASA’s Dawn spacecraft, the first ever to orbit an object in the main asteroid belt, is spiralling towards its first of four intensive science orbits. That initial orbit of the rocky world Vesta begins on 11 August, at an altitude of 2,700 kilometers and will provide in-depth analysis of the asteroid.
