NASA seeks Space Launch System advanced development solutions

NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., has issued a NASA Research Announcement (NRA) for advanced development proposals to support the United States’ next heavy-lift rocket, the Space Launch System (SLS).

Yahsat satellite Y1B shipped to launch site

Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat) satellite Y1B has left the Astrium facilities in Toulouse, France, and was transported by air to Baikonur, Kazakhstan, in preparation for its launch by an ILS Proton Briz M vehicle in April 2012.

New series of tests for Ekspress MD2

Khrunichev’s Ekspress-MD2 communications spacecraft has been delivered to the N.E. Zhukovsky Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) in Zhukovsky, Moscow Region, for acoustic tests.

2011 Broadband Growth The Fastest in Five Years

London, UK, March 21, 2012–Broadband and IPTV growth spiked to a high in 2011 with rates higher than at any time in the last five years, according to year-end figures published by the Broadband Forum. Overall, broadband growth is estimated at 65,493,596 lines, bringing the global total to 597,322,636, a quarterly increase of 2.6% – and an annual growth rate of 12.3%. The figures, prepared for the Broadband Forum by broadband industry analysts Point Topic, also highlight the strongest ever quarter of growth in IPTV which is today’s most demandingapplication for high speed broadband.

Work on Ekspress-AT1 and AT2 on schedule

Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC) said that the construction of the Ekspress-AT1 and Ekspress-AT2 DTH satellites is going according to plan. The spacecraft are scheduled for launch in Q3 of 2013 to the 56 degrees East and 36 degrees East slots, respectively.
