Meridian launch set for 14 November

Specialists at the Plesetsk space centre in Russia have erected a Soyuz-2.1a launcher with Fregat upper stage for the launch of the Meridian spacecraft, Aerospace Defence Colonel Alexei Zolotukhin was quoted as saying.

China to launch next crewed spaceship in June 2013

China plans to launch another crewed spacecraft Shenzhou-10 in early June 2013, a leading space programme official said.

NASA plans hosted payload to monitor air pollution

NASA has selected a proposal from the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to build the first space-based instrument to monitor major air pollutants across the North American continent hourly during daytime. The instrument, to be completed in 2017 at a cost of not more than US$90 million, will share a ride on a commercial geostationary satellite as a hosted payload.

DARPA unveils SpaceView programme

The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) announced SpaceView, a space debris tracking project that relies on the help of amateur astronomers.

Designated Lockheed Martin CEO resigns over affair
