February 16th, 2010 by

With a few exceptions, clearly the best shows of the past ten or fifteen years have not been on FOX, NBC or ABC (or CBS or the CW either, for that matter). In this brave new world, who are the winners? A few stations have clearly come out on top.

One very annoying aspect of watching movies on television is the constant interruption for commercial breaks. Long commercial breaks can leave the user uninterested in watching the movie because of the constant interruptions. As satellite and cable television have become commonplace in almost every home in the United States, more movie channels have been created to feed the increased demand for commercial free movies.

A New Kind of Hustle – HBO Caters to Hipsters on Satellite TV

February 16th, 2010 by

The premiere of “How to Make it in America” brings the new variation on the comedy/drama to HBO: a show created and crafted carefully for a particular sort of upwardly mobile hipster audience. Whether they’re currently trying to lock down some housing in Williamsburg or simply turn their one-off DJ night into a full-time thing, this is an odd generation of television viewers, even when they’re getting older, moving to Park Slope, and trying to find the local organic grocery with enough space to push a stroller around. The hipster–and its sub-category, the aging hipster–are getting a lot of attention lately, as “How to Make it in America” premiering on HBO asks the question, “what’s going on with making shows just for hipsters?”

For when they do, here’s a side-by-side comparison that can help anyone figure out if they should be watching their favorite shows on cable or satellite TV.
