Rocket: Delta II 7320-10C; Payload: NOAA-19 [NOAA-N Prime, NOAA-N’]; Date: 6 February 2008, 1022 UTC; Site: Vandenberg Air Force Base, USA. Following a 65 minute flight, the weather satellite was deployed on its mission to improve weather forecasting and monitor environmental events around the world.

The launch of the NOAA-N Prime weather satellite for NASA and NOAA aboard a United Launch Alliance Delta II rocket has been postponed for an additional 24 hours.

Eurockot Launch Services and its customer, the European Space Agency (ESA), have started preparations for the launch of the GOCE (Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer) satellite from Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Russia.

The launch of the NOAA-N Prime weather satellite was scrubbed when a launch pad gaseous nitrogen pressurisation system failed.

During a review of space shuttle Discovery’s readiness for flight, NASA managers decided to plan a launch no earlier than 19 February. The new planning date is pending additional analysis and particle impact testing associated with a flow control valve in the shuttle’s main engines. In related news, a reboost of the International Space Station was postponed.

Rocket: Safir 2; Payload: Omid; Date: 2 February 2008, 1830 UTC (estimated); Site: undisclosed, Iran. The launch resulted in two trackable objects in orbit, likely the Omid satellite and the rocket’s upper stage.

Spanish operator Hispasat has chosen Arianespace to launch its new communications satellite, Hispasat 1E. It is the first launch contract of 2009 signed by Arianespace.
