Ariane 5 puts U.S. telecom satellite in orbit

Rocket: Ariane 5 ECA; Payload: TerreStar-1; Date: 1 July 2009, 1752 UTC; Site: Kourou, French Guiana. The rocket deployed TerreStar-1 into geostationary transfer orbit 26 minutes after lift-off.

Update: Proton M lifts off with new radio satellite

The launch of Sirius FM-5 aboard a Proton M/Briz M was successfully concluded earlier today. This was the fifth Proton launch of the year after four successful missions.

Shuttle tanking test confirms repair success

A test fuelling of space shuttle Endeavour’s external tank revealed no gaseous hydrogen leaks, verifying recent repairs were successful, NASA managers confirmed.

Measat-3a to begin testing

Measat Satellite Systems Sdn Bhd announced that the Measat-3a satellite has been successfully moved to the 91.4 degrees East orbital slot in preparation for testing.

Boeing to enter Phase 2 of FAST programme

An industry team led by Boeing has received a contract from the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for work on Phase 2 of the Fast Access Spacecraft Testbed (FAST) programme.

Lockheed Martin to develop concept for U.S. Space Fence

The U.S. Air Force has awarded Lockheed Martin a US$30 million contract to begin concept development for Space Fence, a system of land-based S-Band radars and supporting operations centres that will detect and report on objects and debris orbiting the Earth.

Solaris Mobile files insurance claim for S-band payload
