New space freighter launched

Rocket: Soyuz U; Payload: Progress M-67 (Progress P34); Date: 24 July 2009, 1056 UTC; Site: Baikonur, Kazakhstan. The vessel was placed into its targeted preliminary orbit approx. nine minutes after lift-off.

GSAT-11 approved

The Indian government has approved design and development of GSAT-11, an advanced communication satellite, at a total cost INR5 billion (EUR73 million, US$104 million). The spacecraft will be based on ISRO’s new I-4K bus.

USAF accepts second SBIRS-HEO payload

The Lockheed Martin-led team developing the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) announced that the second Highly Elliptical Orbit (HEO-2) payload and ground system modifications have been accepted for operations by the U.S Air Force.

MDA to develop PCW mission concept

MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. has signed a C$4.3 million (EUR2.8 million, US$ 4.0 million) contract with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) for the development of the mission concept for the Polar Communications and Weather (PCW) Mission.

Kepler in safe mode
