GLONASS to go global by 2010

The number of satellites in Russia’s GLONASS system will reach 24 when another six satellites join the constellation this year, Anatoly Perminov, head of the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roskosmos), was quoted as saying.

DubaiSat-1 arrives at Baikonur cosmodrome

With only 18 days left for the launch of DubaiSat-1, the first remote sensing satellite developed by the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science & Technology (EIAST), the satellite has now been shipped from its development base in South Korea to the launch pad in Baikonur in Kazakhstan.

Contract signed for further ATV development

New ‘Space Internet’ protocols tested on ISS

The University of Colorado at Boulder is working with NASA to develop a new communications technology now being tested on the International Space Station, which will extend Earth’s Internet into outer space and across the solar system.

Three new Russian military satellites in orbit

Rocket: Rokot/Briz-KM; Payload: Kosmos 2451, Kosmos 2452, Kosmos 2453; Date: 6 July 2009, 0126 UTC; Site: Plesetsk, Russia. The military satellites, likely of the Strela-3 type, were put into target orbit at 0310 UTC.

Next Ariane 5 to be handed over

Proba-2 will start journey to Russia soon

Proba-2, one of the smallest satellites ESA has ever built for space, is about to leave its Belgian homeland. Its development and testing complete, the satellite is being packed up for the first leg of its journey to orbit – shipment to the Plesetsk launch site in northern Russia.

James Webb Space Telescope core completes thermal testing

Northrop Grumman Corporation has completed testing on a model of the “core” section of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) to validate the observatory’s thermal modelling and design.
