First Galileo test satellite launched four years ago

The GIOVE-A satellite – the first step in Europe’s Galileo satellite navigation programme – was launched on 28 December 2005. The 660 kg spacecraft was built by Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) for ESA in just 30 months at a cost of just EUR28 million.

30 years ago: first Ariane flight

Arianespace’s Ariane launcher today marks the 30th anniversary of its maiden flight. The historic inaugural lift-off occurred on 24 December 1979 from the Spaceport in French Guiana, utilising an Ariane 1 version that placed a payload of 1,645 kg into orbit.

Orbital, TAS receive satellite contract from OverHorizon

Orbital Sciences Corporation announced that it has signed a contract for a new geosynchronous (GEO) communications satellite contract with OverHorizon, with offices in the U.S., Sweden and Cyprus.

Sypris receives swards for space electronics work
