International students to track airplanes from space

Space-based AIS reception, which enables tracking ships on a large scale, has become a hot topic recently. It was only a question of time before a similar system for tracking airplanes from space was proposed. It will start with a balloon, though.

Google TV – Coming Soon to a Living Room Near You

Companies have been trying to revolutionize the television for some time. Years ago I purchased a set top media box made by Dlink. It allowed me to do some basic slideshows of photos and listen to Internet radio. Today, we have only slightly better options. Apple TV will let you watch your iTunes in the living room and the Roku box brings NetFlix streaming to your home. Google recently made an announcement that could substantially change how we watch television. It is called Google TV.

First Minotaur IV launches first SBSS satellite

Rocket: Minotaur IV; Payload: SBSS (Space Based Space Surveillance) Block 10; Date: 26 September 2010, 0141 UTC; Launch Site: Vandenberg Air Force Base, USA. The rocket flew an orbital trajectory downrange over the Pacific Ocean and delivered the SBSS satellite to the desired separation conditions.

Expedition 24 crew lands safely

Expedition 24 Commander Alexander Skvortsov and Flight Engineers Tracy Caldwell Dyson and Mikhail Kornienko landed their Soyuz TMA-18 spacecraft in Kazakhstan on 25 September, wrapping up a six-month stay aboard the International Space Station.

Michibiki in final orbit

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has controlled the orbit of the First Quasi-Zenith Satellite “Michibiki” to insert it into the quasi-zenith orbit from the drift orbit starting on 21 September (Japan Standard Time, JST), and the final orbit control operation was performed for about 50 seconds on 27 September.

Inaugural Minotaur IV launch on 26 September (UTC)

Orbital Sciences Corporation said it is prepared to launch the first orbital mission of the Minotaur IV rocket in support of the Air Force’s Space Based Space Surveillance (SBSS) satellite, also known as SBSS Block 10.
