Capella Space, SMDTC sign CRADA

Capella Space, an information services company that provides an operational Earth observation data service, announced it has signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Technical Center (SMDTC).

Next Ariane 5 to break three records

For its 11th launch of 2021 with the second Ariane 5 of the year, Arianespace will orbit two geostationary satellites: SES-17, a high throughput satellite operated by SES and Syracuse 4A, a satellite developed for the French Ministry of Defense. Lift-off from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana, is scheduled for Saturday, 23 October 2021, during a launch window from 0101 to 0330 UTC.

Russian moon rover to be launched by Angara rocket

The Russian Luna-27 lunar automatic station will be launched atop an Angara rocket from the Vostochny spaceport, Head of the State Space Corporation Roskosmos Dmitry Rogozin said.

Rocket Lab to introduce helicopter operations during next launch

Rocket Lab USA, Inc announced it will attempt a controlled ocean splashdown and recovery of the first stage of an Electron rocket during the company’s next launch in November. The mission will be Rocket Lab’s third ocean recovery of an Electron stage; however, it will be the first time a helicopter will be stationed in the recovery zone around 200 nautical miles offshore to track and visually observe a descending stage in preparation for future aerial capture attempts.

China launches longest-ever crewed mission for space station construction

Rocket: Chang Zheng 2F; Payload: Shenzhou 13; Date: 15 October 2021, 1623 UTC; Launch site: Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, China. About 582 seconds after the launch, Shenzhou-13 separated from the rocket and entered its designated orbit.

Atlas V launches Lucy mission to the Trojan asteroids

OneWeb constellation more than 50% complete after Soyuz launch

Rocket: Soyuz 2.1b/Fregat; Payload: 36 One Web satellites; Date: 14 October 2021, 0940 UTC; Launch site: Vostochny, Russia. The mission lasted three hours and 51 minutes. The 36 satellites were deployed during nine separation sequences at an altitude of 450 km.

China launches Solar Explorer satellite

Rocket: Chang Zheng 2D; Payload: CHASE (Chinese Ha Solar Explorer), eight secondary satellites; Date: 14 October 2021, 1051 UTC; Launch site: Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, China. The 508-kilogram satellite entered a Sun-synchronous orbit about 517 kilometers above Earth, according to a statement from the China National Space Administration.
