Diana, Princess of Wales, was one of the world’s biggest celebrities when her life came to an untimely end in 1997, after her car crashed into a tunnel wall while fleeing the paparazzi in Paris. After her shocking death, the worldwide love and support for her grew ever stronger, and she went from being a living person of fascination to almost a martyr in her quest for peace around the world. The song that Elton John wrote for her, “Candle in the Wind”, became one of the biggest selling singles of all time. Memorial concerts were head, broadcasting all over England and the U.S. via satellite TV; public mourning was worldwide.
