NASA’s new upper stage rocket engine ready for testing

NASA’s new J-2X rocket engine, which could power the upper stage of Unitred States’ future heavy-lift launch vehicle, is ready for its first round of testing. The fully assembled engine was recently installed in the A-2 Test Stand at the agency’s Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.

Thaicom selects Orbital, SpaceX for Thaicom 6

Thaicom Plc. has awarded Orbital Sciences Corporation a firm contract for the Thaicom 6 communications satellite. Based on Orbital’s GEOStar-2 satellite platform, Thaicom 6 will be designed, manufactured and tested at Orbital’s satellite manufacturing facility in Dulles, Virginia. The Thaicom 6 satellite is planned to be launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 in mid-2013.

USAF modifies AEHF orbit-raising plan; recoups anomaly cost

U.S. Strategic Command has approved Air Force Space Command’s modification of the orbit-raising plan designed to transfer the first Advanced Extremely High Frequency space vehicle to its geosynchronous orbit. Furthermore, the Air Force has secured consideration from Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company to recoup anomaly costs through productivity improvements.

Honeywell to acquire EMS Technologies, Inc. for US$491 million

Honeywell announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire EMS Technologies, Inc., a provider of connectivity solutions for mobile networking, rugged mobile computers, and satellite communications, for US$33 per share in cash, or an aggregate purchase price of approximately US$491 million, net of cash acquired.
