MESSENGER adjusts orbit around Mercury

The MESSENGER (MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging) spacecraft successfully completed its first orbit-correction manoeuvre to reset its periapsis altitude – the lowest point of MESSENGER’s orbit about Mercury relative to the planet’s surface – from 506 kilometers to approximately 200 kilometers.

Intelsat to spend US$1.3 billion for next four satellites

Intelsat S.A. confirmed its upcoming launch schedule for four satellites, part of a US$1.3 billion fleet investment programme in the Asia-Pacific region.

LightSquared/GPS test results delayed

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has granted LightSquared a two-week extension to report on recent tests that aimed to determine whether its proposed high-speed wireless broadband network would interfere with GPS systems in the U.S.

First operational Galileo satellite to be named Natalia

Nine year old Natalia from Bulgaria will have her name on one of the first two operational Galileo satellites to be launched on 20th October as she has won the Bulgarian part of the Galileo children’s drawing competition. The European Commission is running the Galileo drawing competition for children in each of the Member States.
