Canada blocks sale of MDA units to ATK

The Canadian government has (at least for the time being) halted the controversial sale of MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates’ space business to U.S.-based Alliant Techsystems Inc. (ATK).

Harris to provide services for space control systems

Harris Corporation has been awarded a 10-year contract valued at more than US$40 million to supply depot support and engineering services for multiple space control systems for the U.S. Space and Missile Systems Center’s Space Superiority Systems Wing at Los Angeles Air Force Base, California.

WorldSpace receives approval for satellite radio service in Germany

WorldSpace Satellite Radio said its wholly owned subsidiary, WorldSpace Europe, received approval from Germany’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) to use 12.5 MHz of spectrum in the L-band (1479.5 – 1492 MHz) on a country-wide basis for the operation of a terrestrial repeater network in Germany. Also, the company apparently has eventually given up plans to launch its third satellite.

LADEE to examine moon dust

NASA is preparing to send a small spacecraft called the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) to the moon in 2011 to assess the lunar atmosphere and the nature of dust lofted above the surface.

TSAT ASIC qualified for space use

Boeing and its TEAM TSAT industry partners have successfully demonstrated the readiness of an IBM-built ASIC that will be used in the Transformational Satellite Communications System (TSAT), Boeing said.
