Launch date set for EOS-3

India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-F10 (GSLV-F10) will launch the Earth Observation Satellite, EOS-03 from the Second Launch Pad of Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota.

China launches “multimedia” satellites

Rocket: Chang Zheng 6; Payload: KL-Beta-A and KL-Beta-B; Date: 4 August 2021, 1101 UTC; Launch site: Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, China. State media said the two multimedia satellites were deployed into pre-set orbit. According to U.S. tracking data, they achieved orbits of 899 km x 908 km x 88.99 degrees.

Chang Zheng 3B lofts military communication satellite

Rocket: Chang Zheng 3B/E; Payload: Zhongxing-2E; Date: 5 August 2021, 1630 UTC; Launch site: Xichang Satellite Launch Center, China. The satellite was likely placed into geostationary transfer orbit. No tracking data were immediately available.

Starliner launch to ISS now postponed indefinitely

The launch of Boeing’s CST-100 Starliner spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS), previously scheduled for 4 August, has been postponed indefinitely, the company’s press service said.

Hyperbola-1 fails for second time

The third launch of private Chinese company i-Space’s Hyperbola-1 rocket has apparently failed. The vehicle took off from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center at approximately 0739 UTC on 3 August.

ESA gets ready for double Venus flyby

Solar Orbiter and BepiColombo are set to perform two Venus flybys just 33 hours apart on 9 and 10 August. The two spacecraft need the gravitational swingby to help them lose a little orbital energy in order to reach their destinations towards the centre of the Solar System.

Lucy spacecraft arrives at launch site

The first spacecraft to explore Jupiter’s Trojan asteroids arrived at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on 30 July. The Southwest Research Institute-led mission is beginning final preparations for launch.

Delay of the day: Atlas V/Starliner

Boeing postponed the launch of its Starliner spacecraft due to problems detected with valves in the capsule’s propulsion system and reset a potential launch for 4 August.
