David Wajsgras to become Intelsat CEO

Intelsat has tapped David Wajsgras as its next chief executive officer (CEO). Effective April 4, Wajsgras succeeds Stephen Spengler, who announced his planned retirement in October 2021.

Intellian to design, supply dual-parabolic reference user terminals for Telesat Lightspeed network

Telesat announced a contract award for Intellian to design and supply reference enterprise user terminals for the Telesat Lightspeed Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network.

Galileo second generation satellites pass PDR

Airbus has successfully completed the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) for its system concept for the second generation Galileo navigation satellites. During this important milestone, Airbus’ proposed preliminary design and the customer’s system requirements have been fully reviewed and agreed.

Faulty drawing caused recent Astra failure

The launch of Astra’s 3.3 rocket (LV 0008) ended in failure on 10 February. After a nominal first stage flight, an anomaly occurred during the stage separation process which resulted in the upper stage not reaching orbit and the end of the mission. Astra said its investigation verified that the payload fairing did not fully deploy prior to upper stage ignition due to an electrical issue.

Iran launches second military satellite

Rocket: Ghased (or Qased); Payload: Noor 2; Date: unknown; Launch site: Shahroud Desert, Iran. The satellite is in a 513 km × 495 km × 58.30 degrees orbit according to U.S. tracking data.

NASA’s robotic OSAM-1 mission completes its critical design review

NASA’s On-orbit Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing 1 (OSAM-1, formerly known as Restore-L), a mission that will be the first to robotically refuel a satellite not designed to be serviced, and will also demonstrate assembly and manufacturing technologies and capabilities, has passed its mission critical design review (CDR).

China launches seven satellites

Rocket: Chang Zheng 2C; Payload: seven smallsats; Date: 5 March 2022, 0601 UTC; Launch site: Xichang Satellite Launch Center, China. The satellites were deployed into approx. 480 km × 500 km × 63.45 degrees orbits.
